Adjust layout and layer order

Understand free positioning and container arrangement before moving objects.

Updated

Select the right level

Use the layer list to select the object. Text, images and containers affect different areas: a container arranges its children, while the canvas defines the design area.

Change position and size

  1. Select a layer and inspect width, height and position in Layout.
  2. Freely arranged layers can be repositioned. Use the aspect-ratio control when proportions should stay fixed.
  3. If the parent controls position, select that container and change its arrangement, alignment or spacing.
  4. Check margins, padding and clipping for hidden or overflowing content.
  5. Preview at the intended size and save.

Canvas dimensions are design dimensions, not Home Screen grid cells. After resizing a canvas, inspect its layers. System placement resizing depends on the platform and launcher.

Arrange a group

For example, put an icon and title in a container, choose horizontal arrangement and set spacing. Choose vertical arrangement for a column. The container may then control child positions.

Check layer order for unexpected overlaps. Also check visibility, opacity and conditions when an object disappears.

Repeated content

A task list can use one repeated structure for several records. Check its source and list range before editing item layout; avoid replacing each previewed item with fixed text.

See personal content for list selection and dynamic content for fields.
